One factor that needs to be included in the process of changing our thoughts, to generate a positive emotion, is our past experiences. There isn't an universal thought that brings peace and happiness. The emotions that result from a thought are dependent on our past experiences. So for one person the thought of marriage and family will result in an joyful emotion, for someone else the thought of marriage and family could bring the emotion of fear and sadness.
Every person has a unique reaction to a specific thought so when someone tells you to change a negative thought to something like sailing on a beautiful ship, be aware that you may have an underlying fear of the ocean or boats and may not even be aware of it.
This will be part of Recurring Thoughts Part 3
The journey continues.
